Plugged-In Thoughts (German: Gesteckt in Gedanken) is a conceptual furniture piece designed to celebrate the act of reading. It serves as a presentation, interaction, and storage system for books, inviting users to engage with literature in a more tangible and immersive way.
Constructed using only a bandsaw, the piece features a modular plug system, eliminating the need for glue, nails, or any additional connecting materials. This structural approach highlights the concept of adaptability while emphasizing craftsmanship and material integrity.
To further encourage reading, the design incorporates a presentation table for books currently in progress and a percentage counter to track reading progress. A built-in lighting option enhances usability, creating a dedicated reading space. Adding a poetic dimension, a self-written poem—reflecting on reading as a journey through thoughts—is painted across the surfaces. This detail reinforces the concept: the moment one engages with the object, the act of reading has already begun. This project explores the intersection of functionality, interaction, and storytelling, transforming furniture into an experience that fosters deeper connections with books and the reading process.
