During this collaborative design project at Aalto University in Helsinki, we aimed to address gender inequality in the Finnish music industry through a co-design workshop initiative. The workshop brought together artists, music students, producers, and gatekeepers such as record labels and radio programmers.

The goal was to co-design a 2030 vision for gender equality together with the participants and to outline immediate actions and pathways for the industry to achieve this vision. Participants were planned to engage in co-design activities alongside experts in social behavior and gender studies, with the goal of developing a shared understanding of the challenges and co-creating actionable solutions. The project emphasized fostering ownership of the actions across all stakeholders, ensuring sustainable and collaborative progress.
We planned to use various collaborative design methodologies, such as deli meetings, and developed a schedule for a four-day workshop. This included all necessary considerations, such as facilitation, selection and preparation of participants, intermediate design aspects like materials, location, and outlining future steps.

The project sought to develop an initiative-based tool designed to establish a clear roadmap for addressing gender inequality in the Finnish music industry by 2030, with the goal of fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment.

CHALLENGE:
